DAVID HAWRELUK, LLB, K.C.

David Hawreluk obtained his law degree from Queen’s University in 1993.  Since that time, David has practiced as a partner at some of the largest Canadian and global law firms, including serving in roles as Edmonton office managing partner, managing partner for clients and industry in Northern Alberta, and on the national Executive Committee.  He is currently a partner at DLA Piper Canada in the Edmonton office where he practices as part of the Litigation, Arbitration and Investigations group. David’s practice is focused on complex contract and commercial litigation matters. David also has extensive mediation experience. As a commitment to his work as a mediator, he completed training in Mediation and Conflict Management at Harvard Law School in 2022.  In 2022, he received the appointment of King’s Counsel in recognition of his abilities as a lawyer and his contributions to the legal profession and the community. 

In addition to his law practice, David is a passionate businessman that has included owning and managing residential and commercial investment properties in Alberta and Quebec, owning and leasing over 6,000 acres of farmland in Alberta and Saskatchewan, developing industrial lands, designing self-storage facilities, creating and operating Grow Lending Group Inc. (“Grow”) and Union Financial Corporation (“UFC”), and recently purchasing the Union Bank property in downtown Edmonton, which will be the future home for Grow and UFC and a hotel that will be part of the Hyatt Unbound boutique collection.  David is also the Vice President of Real Estate for Pomeroy Lodging where he is responsible for leading negotiations with respect to hotel and land acquisitions, leasing, and related contractual matters.
